Where are the leather covers made?

The leather covers are made here in Sydney, Australia! We personally make every single piece ourselves.

Are your leather covers made of real leather?

Yes, our covers are made of the highest quality full-grain vegetable tanned leather.

What's vegetable tanned leather?

Short answer: leather made the old-fashioned, natural way.

When an animal hide becomes leather, it goes through a process called tanning. This is what turns it from raw skin into something strong and long-lasting.

  • Vegetable tanning uses natural ingredients from plants, like tree bark, instead of lots of harsh chemicals.
  • It's one of the oldest methods in the world. People have made leather this way for centuries.
  • It's known for its rich, warm look and a feel that improves the more you use it.

Where do you source your leather?

Our leather is from sustainable tanneries based in Tuscany, Italy. We only source the highest quality 1° Grade leather.

Is vegetable tanned leather sustainable and eco-friendly?

Yes it is!

  • Natural ingredients. Plant-based tanning means fewer harsh chemicals in the process.
  • Nothing goes to waste. The leather comes from hides that are a by-product of the food industry. We make a cover from something that would otherwise be thrown away.
  • Made in Europe. Italian and European tanneries follow strict rules on chemicals, water use and fair working conditions.
  • Made to last. Something you keep for years is something you don't throw away and replace.

Why should I pick real leather over vegan leather?

Short answer: because feels and looks amazing, it gets better with age, and it's the more sustainable choice.

"Vegan leather" is usually plastic made to look like leather. Real leather is the real thing, and you can tell the difference.

  • It lasts for years. Plastic versions often crack and peel. Real leather can be used for generations.
  • It looks better over time. Real leather softens with use and develops a beautiful and unique patina.
  • It feels like leather. You get the real texture and smell. Plastic can't copy that.
  • It’s more sustainable. Faux leather is made from petroleum-based plastic. Real leather is made from hides that are a by-product of the food industry, so nothing goes to waste. Because it lasts for years, you don't have to keep replacing it. And when you're finally done with it, vegetable tanned leather breaks down naturally over time, while plastic stays around for ages.

What's the difference between full-grain leather and genuine leather?

Short answer: full grain is the top-quality part of the hide. "Genuine leather" is a lower grade, and the name makes it sound better than it is.

A hide has layers, a bit like a cake. The grade of leather depends on which layer you're getting.

  • Full grain leather is the outer layer of the hide, left natural. It's the strongest, most durable part, and it keeps the natural marks and texture of the skin.
  • Genuine leather is made from the lower layers left over once the top has been taken off. It's real leather, but it's usually sanded, coated or embossed to look uniform, so it's less durable and doesn't age as well.

Why it matters:

  • Full grain lasts longer. The tight natural fibres make it tough, so it holds up to years of use.
  • Full grain ages beautifully. It darkens and develops a rich patina. Genuine leather tends to wear, peel or crack at the surface.
  • Full grain is one of a kind. Small natural marks are proof it's the real, untouched surface.
